In 2010

In 2010 the group joined our parishes to the ‘CONNECT 2…..’ scheme which provides focussed feedback on a chosen project area.

We will hear from real people, learn about their lives over time, keep up to date with their news and share their hopes and struggles. We will also learn more about how CAFOD is working with our local partner organisation to support the community.
The funds we raise will support the community in our chosen country and others like them. Over time we’ll be able to see the real difference we are making.
We will also be able to share news of our own lives by sending photos and cards to CAFOD which they can then send on to the community because people there also want to hear about us and our parish community. These may be photos of a fundraising event we’ve held or a special Mass for the community, or a Christmas card signed by everyone in the parishes. It is hoped that this provides a more personal way of showing our support, and it will mean a lot to the people receiving them.

Ringwood and Fordingbridge parishes are connected to Bangladesh in particular to a village called Kainmari
Look out for news about what difference our parishes are making…….

" God intended the earth and everything in it for the use of all human beings and peoples."

Pope Paul VI's thought provoking words are an inspiration for the livesimply initiative that CAFOD is supporting throughout this year.

We are asked to consider if we could live on 99% of our income what the 1% could do for those living in extreme poverty.

? What do I do everyday that affects those who live in poverty ?

? What changes could I make that would help others to have a better life ?

Do I have enough, or more than I need?

Could I afford to spare some of what I have?

Are we up to the challenge? Are you up to the challenge?

Here are a couple of simple ways you can make a difference!

Simple soups for a livesimply lunch.

These recipes were provided by Lucy Harrison, from CAFOD's community fundraising team, as part of her promise to livesimply.

She says:"These are just two recipes, you'll have your favourites as well - share them with your group, and if you let us know them, we'll share them with other groups who have also taken the livesimply challenge."

Broccoli Soup: Serves 4

  1. Chop up 2 heads of broccoli and put in a saucepan.
  2. Add enough cold water to cover the broccoli.
  3. Bring to the boil and simmer until the broccoli is cooked.
  4. Once cooked, blitz up the broccoli with half of the cooking water/stock you've made until smooth.
  5. Season well with salt and pepper and enjoy!

Vegetable and Lentil Soup: Serves 4

  1. Sauté 1 chopped onion in some olive oil.
  2. Chop 1-2 sticks of celery, 2-3 carrots, ˝ turnip and 1 leek and add to the onion - cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Add 3oz of lentils and 1˝ pint stock (vegetable or chicken stock cubes are fine) - bring to the boil and then simmer until the lentils are cooked.
  4. Liquidise and then add a splash of milk and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
  5. Season with plenty of black pepper.
